Finn crossed the road and disappeared into the crowd.

Evie rejoined Oscar just in time to see Jake come into view.

There must have been an important meeting, because Jake wore his navy Tom Ford with narrow pinstripe. Her mouth had gone dry the last time she’d seen him in it, so she’d sneaked a peek at the label inside the jacket when he’d left it draped over the chair in the kitchen.

She liked looking at him no matter what he wore. And hadn’t thought she had a boss fantasy. But something about the way the combination of sharp suit, snow-white shirt, and a tie made her want to wander over and perch on his knee with a shorthand notebook.

There was no trace of his usual stubble.

Photographers spent hours with hair putty on male models to achieve the springy wave that swept across his forehead.

He walked abreast with Lisa, who looked left and right, busy checking out her surroundings.

Behind them, Matt and Cormac were deep in conversation.

Jake’s gaze didn’t waver. All his attention was firmly focused on her. It was the hottest thing she’d ever seen.

And it was obviously doing the trick because there was a clearing of a male throat to her right. “Fair play,” Oscar whispered. He held his palm up. “Don’t leave me hanging.”

She completed the high five.

When she looked back, the little party was approaching. They’d cut it fine; the rest of the guests were already onboard.

“Good morning!” Oscar’s voice rose in tour guide mode.

“Good morning.” Jake stepped close. He tilted Evie’s face up to his and lowered his lips to hers in a kiss. If she’d been a casual observer, she’d have swooned and gone all mushy at the sight of obvious true love.

As one half of the embrace—one half who knew they were only pretending—she damn near fell over as a wave of passion flooded her and made her knees weak.

She grasped his arms as he continued to kiss way longer and more thoroughly than was decent. When she finally came up for air, it was to see a huge grin on Oscar’s face.

“Our lovely driver, Evie, everyone.”

The entire busload had been watching.

“Give her and her fella a big roar!”

Jake kissed her cheek quickly. “See you later, babe.”

Her passengers’ roar in her ears, Evie made her way behind the wheel and set off on her usual route around the city.

As they were the last to board, Jake and the others were at the back of the Duck. To Evie’s relief, Oscar had no time to make more than the passing comment or tease, as there was just too much necessary commentary he had to make.

When they finally were on the final stretch back to where the tour started, Oscar sat down in the passenger seat. “He’s lovely, your fella. I approve.”

She raised an eyebrow.

“He’s a great roar, too.”

She shot him a look. One that spoke volumes.

“I didn’t say anything.” Oscar smirked. “He does though. It’s not every day we get a guy in a suit wearing the helmet.
